Michigan Tamil Sangam is a registered US nonprofit 501(c)(3), founded in 1977 and based in Sterling Heights, Michigan. For nearly five decades we have kept Tamil language, culture and community alive in Michigan — today about 5,000 community members, plus the MTS Tamil Schools teaching about 700 students every Saturday across Livonia, Troy, Canton and Farmington Hills.
We run festivals (Deepavali, Chithirai Thiruvizha, Pongal), cultural competitions, a community library tradition, and one of the largest Tamil school programmes in the Midwest.

Every event and every school Saturday runs on volunteers — teachers, junior teachers (student volunteers earning service hours), library, safety, decoration, assembly and social-media teams. Volunteers are onboarded once, background-checked where they work with children, and their hours are recorded at check-in.
